What are the shortcomings of the theory of scientific management propounded by F. W. Taylor.
Limitation of Scientific Management
1. The principles of scientific management do not focus on the management of an organisation from the manager's point of view. They were more relevant from an engineering point of view rather than management point of view.
2. Taylor and his followers overlooked the social needs of worker and overemphasized their economic and physical needs.
3. Scientific management theorists also ignored the human desire for job satisfaction. Workers were more likely to go on a strike over working conditions and job content factors rather than over salary. They were even likely to leave a job, if they were unhappy in it.
Thus scientific management principles, which were based on rational worker model became ineffective in due course of time.
